My Digitalpoint Account and Hotmail has been Hijacked

Many of you may already know about this but I am posting about it to let those who has not been notified know that my hotmail account (rubeina17@hotmail.com) has been hijacked along with my Digitalpoint forums account. I found out about it Sunday (13 July) morning around 10am (Mauritian time), I don’t know for how long the person has been using my accounts.

I informed most of the people I know already and with Shannon’s help the hijacker has been stopped from using my account at Digitalpoint, she informed other members in this thread http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?t=930877.

Worst thing is that the person is still using my hotmail and trying to fool around, so if anyone has added the id rubeina17@hotmail.com please block it or delete from your friend list asap, whatever s/he says to you on chat, it is NOT me. I am trying to get back my account, and hope everything will be resolved soon.

So far that person has scammed the DP member Yfcadmin of $100, here are the details provided by the person

paypal ID: cyclaws@yahoo.com
Name: Robert Zach Anderson
Amount sent: -$100.00 USD

I hope no other member has been scammed or fooled by this person!

I have been polite and mentioned about the hijacker as a “person” not to make this post look like shit but all the time it was all the worst thing possible that was on my mind. To the person who did this; I don’t think I will ever be able to trace you but whoever you are, if you are reading this, I wish you all the bad things in life. Sorry but I cannot resist to curse this person, this won’t do him any harm anyway… unfortunately (mad)

Update: Sunday 20 July
I just learned from a friend (thank you for providing me with this information) that the hijacker has opened a paypal account with the id rubeina17@hotmail.com. I haven’t got my account back, so if anyone asks you to send money to rubeina17@hotmail.com it is NOT me! Also everyone (at least those who knows me) from Digital Point know that I am from Mauritius and CANNOT receive money on paypal.
Details provided about the account:

About rubeina17@hotmail.com:

Account Creation Date: 20-Jul.-2008

Also, here is one more id that hijacker is asking to send payment to

j_jebs@yahoo.com

After a week now (wow already!), the person is still trying to fool others and asking (yeah “begging” fits better here) for money, see here
(punch)

I am going to say it again, if you added my hotmail id rubeina17@hotmail.com please block it asap and delete from your list.

My New Wordpress Theme

I am sure those who use to visit my blog have noticed the new theme already, I really love it though at first I didn’t really want to have my photo in the header but it looks nice :) It’s a gift from a very good friend (who unfortunately wants to stay anonymous), you might have noticed him around on the blog.
He often tells me the theme I had looks gay (think) (chuckle) . Here’s what my previous theme looked like

rubeina.com old theme

And the new one, I am in (love) with it but I think there’s still a few things to modify to improve it. And the text under the photo should have said “Me at Trou aux Cerfs” haha no place for the deers (cerfs in french)

rubeina.com new theme

Thank you dear friend :*

What you think about it? 8|

Zenphoto Gallery

It took me some time but I finally did it, I installed zenphoto without any help (yeah not a big deal for some but it is for me) ;) and guess what, the whole thing is actually working! cool eh, I spent one whole evening with that. I spent that much time because there was a few stuffs not working fine, one theme was messed up (the default supper gallery) I kept getting errors. I wanted to use it as it had the option for sub galleries, just too bad.

But actual one I am using is nice too, you can see my photo gallery here http://gallery.rubeina.com/ nothing much there yet, in fact I was just testing how it works with the Trou aux cerfs gallery. (muscle) my photos rocks j/k

Hmm yeah now I need to add more photos there.

Defensive Mode

Just to let you know, this post is not going to be about any game or anime where protagonist gets into defensive mode haha, it is about myself and one thing that really bugs me. Let me ask you a question first. Do you think it’s right for someone who doesn’t know anything about you to come and say that you should do this or that, telling you that you should get another job? And the list goes on… Am sure you will feel annoyed or of you are an extremely nice person you would just take their advice or just listen to them (sorry but I would call it stupid if you do).

So, there is that taxi that I take once in a while if I don’t get the bus late in the afternoon. The driver is a very nice person probably in his fifties. We usually have a little chat on the way, about the weather or other stuffs happening in the country and he also asks about my job. Not to get too much in detail I told him I work on the internet, he wanted to know, how the company works etc, still I did not tell much. All was fine till recently, last Friday I took the taxi again and as usual we started discussing about usual stuffs and finally talking about my job again. I know he had the best intention in the world but saying that I am still young and can get a better job in a bigger company really made me mad. We would probably have a very interesting conversation if I didn’t reach destination. But I am still thinking deeply about what he said.

I don’t know why the older generation in Mauritius thinks that everyone’s life should be stereotype, that is, you go to school then to uni and get stuck in the same job in some “big” (by big they probably mean with 100+ employees) company till you retire. I am not saying all of them though but a whole lot will argue with you if you want to live your life different from their way of living. It’s like you’re doomed to failure if you choose to be different.

Back to our driver, I told him what I think about big companies, how you are ‘no one’ and where your job is the same old routine everyday and told him all good that I think about being in a small company. It really made me mad that some people are thinking that way that’s why I was in a “defensive mode” during the whole conversation. Hah, so what if he had “life experience” as he kept saying, I don’t want to be like him someday… having that same old stereotype way of living, I want to be different living my life like I want to.

On a nicer tone, I am fine taking advice from whoever is giving it, but I better take advice from people who have succeeded in their life and encouraging me to move forward in whatever field I have chosen. Just keep in mind, it’s better to do a job that you enjoy than being stuck in one that you don’t like and being frustrated in the end.

Online Reputation

Online reputation is often taken for granted since you can hide behind whatever identity you want.  Many times you will see scammers messing up their reputation, of course they don’t really care about it thinking they can start scamming at other sites since the internet is so wide, for them changing identity is as easy as 1, 2, 3…   But however smart they think they are,  they won’t go very far since scammers always end up getting caught and unfortunately it is after the bad has been done.

Okay,  let’s forget about scammers and move to the actual topic.  According to me, online reputation is as important as conventional reputation, it takes time and trust to build.  Being a member of various online communities myself I know what I am talking about.  Your online reputation also reflects what you are in reality, your way of approaching people, talking to them, making friends and so on though you might find it easier online since you are not face to face to the person you are interacting with.  Many people find it more comfortable to use “nicknames” online but it is most of the time one that fits their personality.  Few years ago I was also using all kind of pseudonyms while chatting mostly but now I use my first name almost everywhere I need to create an account, forums, messengers, etc.

Again just like your real life reputation, once your online reputation is broken, it will not be easy to get back to the same status you were before, keep in mind that behind all the pseudonyms you see online there are real human beings, you will need to work really hard to win their trust again.

I have been thinking about my online reputation and decided to write about it in general terms, take the poll it’ll be interesting for me to know what others think about online reputation.  And I just wanted to add, I know I don’t really have a super great reputation online (I’ve always been a ‘background’ type of person anyway) but I can always say I am the most popular “Rubeina” online (at least that’s what google says), sometimes it feels good to have a rare name. :D
