Many of you may already know about this but I am posting about it to let those who has not been notified know that my hotmail account (rubeina17@hotmail.com) has been hijacked along with my Digitalpoint forums account. I found out about it Sunday (13 July) morning around 10am (Mauritian time), I don’t know for how long the person has been using my accounts.
I informed most of the people I know already and with Shannon’s help the hijacker has been stopped from using my account at Digitalpoint, she informed other members in this thread http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?t=930877.
Worst thing is that the person is still using my hotmail and trying to fool around, so if anyone has added the id rubeina17@hotmail.com please block it or delete from your friend list asap, whatever s/he says to you on chat, it is NOT me. I am trying to get back my account, and hope everything will be resolved soon.
So far that person has scammed the DP member Yfcadmin of $100, here are the details provided by the person

Amount sent: -$100.00 USD
I hope no other member has been scammed or fooled by this person!
I have been polite and mentioned about the hijacker as a “person” not to make this post look like shit but all the time it was all the worst thing possible that was on my mind. To the person who did this; I don’t think I will ever be able to trace you but whoever you are, if you are reading this, I wish you all the bad things in life. Sorry but I cannot resist to curse this person, this won’t do him any harm anyway… unfortunately

I just learned from a friend (thank you for providing me with this information) that the hijacker has opened a paypal account with the id rubeina17@hotmail.com. I haven’t got my account back, so if anyone asks you to send money to rubeina17@hotmail.com it is NOT me! Also everyone (at least those who knows me) from Digital Point know that I am from Mauritius and CANNOT receive money on paypal.

Well that sucks. Can’t an admin just change your password for Digital point? You can also contact the hotmail staff to reset your password or delete your account. Good luck.

Thank you for your suggestion. My Digitalpoint my account has been banned to stop the hijacker from doing any more harm, I am waiting for an update…
And concerning my hotmail account I think it will not be an easy task for me to get it back, that email is so old, there are a few details that hotmail support is asking that I can’t remember, I am trying my best to put together the details so far, I hope it goes fine and even if I don’t get the email back it will be great if msn sees that there’s scam behind it (I have sent them a link to the digitalpoint thread).

That’s really bad news. i was going through Dp when I saw your accound banned. That intrigued me for a mod to be banned.
Did you figure out how they got hold of your account?
Some people are just scumbags, and this guy will get his pay back when he least expects it.
Hopefully it will be resolved soon. If not, keep complaining until they do.

That’s worse. Try to be careful next time in signing up or joining websites. Use different passwords for the logins of your accounts especially emails and accounts that involves money, be very careful not to duplicate your paypal password. That’s hell if you do that!

Its been more time than I thought you’ll reply. As all this happened via your ID and DP IP so are you taking any responsibility of the work. I confirmed your DP ID by asking you send me a PM on DP. You did sent me one. I had no other clue about it. I post a comment on 18 July and you didnt approved it till now.
I had chat with smyrl too. I know your accounts are hacked but still you can make a new account and catch up with the old users to save them. You can as smyrl to post your new contact ID on the forums. Or is that tough. I dont see any replies from your end at all. Seriously you should take some responsibility.
I have been through same situation. I login in via a cybercafe and my ID was hacked as the cybercafe system was infected. But it all happened from my ID so I took the responsibility of issue and compensated the users till the extent I could. I expect something coming out on your blog by you soon.

You sure know how to assume a LOT of things, if I could help you in any way I would do it, I replied to you when you contacted me (you already posted in the thread why say that you did not hear anything from my side). If I have not been posting on my blog daily that does not mean I have not been doing anything! I have been in contact with Shannon everyday since this happened to see how is it going with my account at DP, as you can see I am still waiting. And for MSN it’s more complicated since they are asking for details that I can’t remember of but still I provided as much details as I could even sent them a link to the DP thread, hopefully they can stop the scammer.
On the 21st July I learned from a friend (who is trying to get as much details as possible from that person) that the scammer created a paypal account with the id, I updated my post and also asked Shannon to post it on the thread, if my blog is not being read then at least people will check the DP thread. I also mentioned that I CANNOT receive money on paypal.

Rubeina I did posted a comment of same day when the new post was written. Seriously its your duty to keep everyone updated about the scam going on.
You took *3 days* ( *72 hours*) to post the new topic. The scam took place on 13th July and you posted this thread (http://www.rubeina.com/2008/07/my-digitalpoint-account-and-hotmail-has-been-hijacked/#respond) on 16th July.
It takes 10 mins to post a thread saying that your contact ID have been hacked please be beware and that you’ll update us regarding it coming days… could have stated the reason that you are mailing your clients etc.
You could have also told shannon to add a blog listing under your DP username saying my profile is hacked and a linkback to your blog with details about being hacked the same day. but Nothing like this happened.
Whatever I told about takes approx. 15 mins.
I know normally 85% of online users cant recover password coz of two reason:
1. The records are enough to remember.
a) New updates in personal information in email systems
b) Weak memory.
2. hacker might have changed a little of that.
Still there is a chance for you to stand. There are some information that yahoo doesnt allows the user to change. ( I guess the same is the case with Msn too)
Read this topic about Yahoo account hacked (http://forums.yahoofanclub.com/showthread.php?t=593). The account was restored by calling Yahoo on phone support. Plus you have complete proofs of the happening. Give out the maximum information you have give about your account.
And about news update… That scammer bought 3 VCC from a DP member was banned. Dugloo or someone like that in your name. The hacker created 2 more paypal accounts. This time he/she will do a pretty old trick:
Gets money from Buyer B —>Transfer money from Account A —> Account C
Later he closes the account A. So there is no action to Account C.
Where B is buyer paypal account, A and C are new paypal accounts made by scammer.
And on the same day I asked Shannon to provide me your chat ID so that I can contact you .. I received a reply from your end as you are in shock and cant talk now. Its been 10 days and you didnt added. Its yesterday you add me.
There is no update regarding this problem on your blog other than talking I am hacked or what scammer is doing. Atleast you can do is login to your paypal .. and copy all the paypal email IDs and sent everyone email that your accounts are hacked and dont send money. At Least one one could be saved. But Nothing.
Seriously Rubeina its your duty to safeguard your account and not the DP members or your clients. Its not a child’s play to hackin into someones account. There 17 Mods on DP.

And I dont see anyone else attacked. I know shannon was in past. But no one else. If its that easy to hack someone then anyone can hack into Shawn’s or Crazy_Rob’s account and delete everything. Or even get to Shawn’s personal accounts/ bank account information and transfer all the funds to somewhere else. Seriously you’ll have to admit that you very low on your security and its all your fault. I am not being harsh … only talking about the incident.

Was talking to the person who stole your msn. It was obvious it wasn’t you, since I claimed to know you in real life and the person on your MSN went along with it. Anyways, I managed to get the user’s IP address, although he may have been using a proxy. Could run it through some databases or whatever to try and find out who the person is. If you want it, email me.

Same thing happened to me. My account got hacked too and I requested to be banned trough a friend.
Shawn(admin) is the only one who can reset email to recover my pass and I am waiting for a month now.

Your account was unbanned a couple days ago… and now its banned again… what’s going on ???
My account was banned for a month when it was hijacked, the ban expired now it’s banned again till Shawn will checks it.
